Mayor welcomes Group’s plans
TRAMWAY GROUP HITS THE RIGHT NOTE
The Glyn Valley Tramway Group’s stand at the 2008 Glyn Carnival attracted much attention, not least from the new Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr. David Griffiths.
Centrepiece of the GVT Group’s stand at the Carnival was a 60-key Mirecki-Dean fairground organ playing musical favourites from across the generations. Wrexham Mayor, Cllr. David Griffiths, and the Lady Mayoress spent some time at the Group’s stand discussing with GVT Group President, Geoffrey Kilfoil, the Group’s imaginative plans for a Heritage Centre and replica steam tramway on the site of the old engine shed at Glyn, and the Mayor expressed himself much impressed. He was then presented, as a memento of his visit, with a GVT crested tie by Group Trustee and Vice-Chairman, David Perry.
The Glyn Valley Tramway Group is in detailed discussion with a specialist consultant in the field of transport heritage with a view to commissioning a major Business & Development Plan for its project, and work is already proceeding on the initial restoration of the old engine shed building, using Group volunteer members.
